The 'sweet' work of baklava makers from Gaziantep

Eyyüp BURUN- Metin Faruk TAMER/ GAZİANTEP, (DHA)-There is intense work in GAZİANTEP to produce baklava ordered from domestic and abroad, just a few days before Ramadan Feast. Stating that the baklavas are ready for the holiday, Ayıntap Baklavas owner Levent Aktaş said, "We send baklava to all over the world and Turkey."

Baklava producers in Gaziantep, famous for its baklava and pistachios, are working day and night to fulfill the orders coming from home and abroad, just a few days before Ramadan Feast. The masters turn the dough into paper with a rolling pin and place the dough one by one on the tray. Baklava, with butter and peanuts poured over it, is served to the customer after being kept in the wood fire for about half an hour, then poured with sherbet.

Stating that they are working 'sweet' shifts due to the Eid, Levent Aktaş said, "When Gaziantep is mentioned, Antep Baklava, which is identified with pistachios, comes to mind. As always, we have sales abroad and domestically. All the tradesmen are making intense efforts and trying to grow baklava in the few days before the Eid. "There is a great deal of work going on because there is a lot of demand," he said.

'THE ARAB COUNTRIES ARE MOST INTERESTED IN BAKLAVA'

Expressing that they send baklava to all over Turkey and many countries of the world upon the request of customers, Aktaş said, "In Turkey, we mostly send baklava to metropolitan cities such as Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. Abroad, Arab countries order baklava the most. Such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait. We also sell to European countries. We supply baklava to many countries, especially Germany. We have currently increased our production capacity by 50 percent. We are currently working day and night to meet the demands of our customers. As the Eid approaches, our production capacity increases. "We think that we will increase our capacity by 100 percent a few days before the holiday," he said.
